Report- E3 is being skipped by an increasing number of publishers
In recent years, E3 has seen a decline in its significance and impact as an increasing number of publishers prefer to organise their own, more cost-effective events, either online or in-person. While 2023 was supposed to mark the triumphant comeback of E3, it appears that this may not materialise as expected, with more publishers withdrawing from the event.
According to a report by IGN, SEGA and Tencent are the latest names to join the long list of non-participants, alongside major players like Nintendo, Sony, Xbox, and Ubisoft.
No official statement has been made as to why these publishers are backing out from E3, but according to IGN, the organisers of the event – ESA and ReedPop – have not been transparent enough, leading to a lack of communication and clarity.
As per IGN’s report, E3 plans should have been finalised by now, but that does not seem to be the case. With the event scheduled to take place in early June, time is running out for everything to come together, which is a major cause of concern for studios and publishers who typically plan for E3 months in advance. It remains to be seen if the ESA/ReedPop can provide some clarity in the near future.
The current situation surrounding E3 has raised questions about the event’s viability and its potential to regain its previous status. We would like to know your thoughts on this matter. Do you think E3 will take place as scheduled, and can it make a comeback to its former glory? Please share your opinions in the comments section below.
