Google considering to bring Nvidia GPUs to Stadia

Published

Rumors are going around that Stadia may be getting some new hardware to work with. Not only that, but we’re talking specifically in video hardware, a clear step away from the AMD-powered servers they’ve been using.

Now, before getting further into this, and before people start getting too carried away with this news, I need to make it very clear, that this is not confirmation. So with that out of the way, where exactly is all this information coming from, basically, Google’s Linux kernel build for stadia added in video drivers support somewhat recently, interestingly enough, it happened to be on May 17th, exactly one week after Nvidia announced that they were working on an open-source GPU kernel driver.

And as of right now, all we know is that Nvidia drivers support was added and really that’s it nothing more until we started hearing something official coming from Google stating that upgraded hardware is on the way to Stadia. This should just be taken as possible.

Internal testing is being done, It may very well be something that never sees the light of day while it’s okay to get excited about this sort of news. Just don’t let it turn into expectations because as of right now, there’s no sign of it actually being next-gen hardware.
