Sony Poised to Overcome PS3 Emulation Challenges with New PS5 Development
In recent years, Sony has lagged behind Microsoft in terms of backwards compatibility. However, this has been gradually improving with the console manufacturer recently unveiling enhanced PS2/PSP emulators for the PS5. Despite initial scepticism, it appears that Sony is now working on a PS3 emulator, according to a reliable insider.
Renowned leaker Jeff Grubb has reported on the matter, addressing recent rumours about Sony developing their own PS3 emulator for the PS5. Grubb commented:
“It’s something that I’ve heard has been in the works for quite some time. I thought it was going to get revealed earlier this year when I first heard about it. That clearly didn’t happen, but that doesn’t mean it will never happen—maybe it does.”
The unique design and architectural decisions of the PS3 have made emulation challenging for Sony, leading them to rely on cloud streaming as the primary method for playing games from the 7th generation.
This may soon change. Given the significant number of PS3 games that have yet to be made available on the PS4/5, the introduction of a PS3 emulator for current-gen consoles would be a substantial victory for Sony.
