Report – PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo pulling out of E3 2023
The excitement for a physical E3 event has been building for years, but the recent update is not what we were hoping for. We were optimistic for a successful revival, but it seems like that won’t be the case.
For the first time in history, the absence of the “big three” console manufacturers at E3 this year has been reported.
According to IGN, the absence of Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation at E3 2023 has been confirmed, as they have decided against buying booth space.
Nintendo has decided not to secure booth space at E3 this year due to a perceived shortage of significant game releases in its lineup. Xbox’s summer showcase will still take place, just not at the same location as E3 at the LA Convention Centre.
It’s been a while since Nintendo last hosted a physical press conference at E3. Several years ago, PlayStation made the decision to stop participating in E3 and instead present their announcements directly to consumers through streams.
Microsoft has recently followed a similar approach by launching its own Developer Direct show, providing Xbox with a new method of communicating announcements with fans on a regular basis, without the need to concentrate all its marketing efforts on the summer months.
Despite the absence of the big three Xbox, Nintendo, and PlayStation, E3 2023 could still be a major event with companies such as Ubisoft, Square Enix, Capcom, WB, and others offering sufficient content to maintain interest.
