The PS5 will have exclusive access to Final Fantasy 16 for six months, while the PC release is postponed.
Gamers were hyped when Final Fantasy 16 was unveiled, but that excitement was quickly dampened by the announcement of its PlayStation 5 exclusivity. However, PC gamers will need to exercise some patience as the release date is expected to lag significantly behind that of the console version.
During an interview this week, Naoki Yoshida, the producer of Final Fantasy 16, confirmed that the game will be a PS5 exclusive for six months. However, PC gamers should not get their hopes up for a release within the same timeframe as the console version, as Yoshida made it clear that the PC version will take longer to develop.
Yoshida addressed the issue of the PC version of Final Fantasy 16 during an interview, stating that although the game will be a PS5 exclusive for six months, the PC release will not be ready within the same timeframe. In fact, he emphasised that the PC version will take much longer to develop and will not be launching within six months of the console release. He clarified that the two releases have completely separate timelines.
At present, Square Enix is fully concentrating its resources on the PS5 version of Final Fantasy 16 and is not concurrently optimizing the PC version. This mirrors the development approach taken by Square Enix with previous titles such as Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy VII Remake, which were released for PC significantly later than the initial console launch.
