Meta’s VR Game-Changer: Quest 2 Price Slash Sets the Stage for 2024 Virtual Reality Revolution

In the lead-up to the debut of the Quest 3 last year, Meta revisited its pricing strategy, opting to hike up the costs of the Quest 2 VR headset. Fast forward to the onset of 2024, and Meta has executed a turnaround, slashing prices on its last-generation system.

Effective January 1, 2024, the 128GB Quest 2 has witnessed a descent from £299 to the more palatable £249.99, while the 256GB variant now stands at £299. Officially refurbished units have gracefully followed suit, with pricing now set at £229.99 and £269.99, respectively. In tandem with these adjustments, Meta has also proclaimed a reduction in prices across the board for all Quest 2 accessories, encompassing the Elite Strap, carrying case, and various others.

Despite the availability of the Quest 3, which comes with a heftier price tag compared to the Quest 2’s initial launch, clocking in at £499 – equivalent to the original Oculus Rift headset – Meta’s strategic move to lower the Quest 2’s price is aimed at enticing new users into the VR realm. The company is banking on the prospect that these users may eventually opt for an upgrade to a more advanced or expensive headset in the future.

Presently, most VR games continue to roll out with support for both the Quest 2 and the Quest 3. Furthermore, users can seamlessly connect either headset to a PC for playing PCVR titles, whether wired or wirelessly, provided they boast a robust home network setup.
