Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 expansion from Sledgehammer coming in 2023
Activision is shaking things up with Call of Duty in 2023. The company has declared a premium release, and according to sources, it will be an expansion for Modern Warfare 2. This will extend the game’s lifespan prior to Treyarch’s next major release.
Jason Schreier, known for his previous reporting on the expansion, has stated that Sledgehammer Games is creating a new campaign for the expansion. In addition, the expansion will feature a collection of new maps as well as a mix of returning favourites from previous Call of Duty titles.
This marks the debut of a Call of Duty campaign expansion post-launch. Historically, all post-launch content has centred on multiplayer and cooperative modes such as Zombies, traditional multiplayer, and more recently, Warzone.
Expect the arrival of Call of Duty’s Modern Warfare 2 expansion before the close of the year. In 2024, Treyarch is set to release its next title, speculated to be another addition to the Black Ops franchise.
It remains to be seen how many players will embrace the paid expansion next year.
