Apple Vision Pro headset launch delayed due to manufacturing issues

Apple’s highly anticipated Vision Pro headset, which was unveiled at WWDC this year, has encountered a setback.  Apple has reportedly adjusted its projections due to production challenges.

Priced at $3,499, the Vision Pro headset is positioned as a premium device. However, its high price tag sets it apart from other expensive headsets like the Meta Quest Pro and Valve Index, making it less accessible to the average consumer. Despite this, Apple anticipated strong initial interest and aimed to ship 1 million units shortly after its early 2024 launch.

Unfortunately, The Financial Times reports that Apple has had to revise its forecasts downward due to production issues. Sources from the supply chain indicate that Apple’s dual micro-OLED displays and lenses are the primary causes of these challenges.

To overcome these obstacles, Apple may consider bringing additional production partners on board. This approach could potentially address the production issues and allow for a greater number of headsets to be manufactured. In the meantime, however, plans for Apple’s more affordable Vision headset have been delayed.
